The Benefits of Working in a Park

One of the enduring features that draws so many to the Research Triangle Park is the abundance of green open space. It is little wonder that scientists and other knowledge workers perform better when their work environment feels like being in a park, and studies have shown there may even be a preference for such places wired into our genes. Several companies have cited the greenways and other outdoor amenities among the reasons why RTP is an appealing place to locate. On a warm spring day it is not uncommon to see people throughout the park on the greenways to exercise or simply to refresh their minds and enjoy a beautiful day.

Softball and Volleyball

There are 4 softball fields and 12 volleyball courts in the Research Triangle Park. Park employees can also join one of the many teams within the Park's independently managed volleyball and softball leagues. The league runs from mid-April through Labor Day.  For more information about the league, contact Ed Hutchins. To reserve one of the softball diamonds or volleyball courts, please e-mail the Research Triangle Foundation or call 919.549.8181.

Mountain Biking

The Triangle Off-Road Cyclists organization worked with The Research Triangle Foundation and Kite Realty to construct a mountain bike trail in RTP. The trail was an instant success and plans are underway for an expansion. Click to view the location of the trailhead or to see a map of the trail (pdf). A gravel parking lot has been installed just west of the trailhead for those driving to the trail.
