Habitat Certification
The “Wildlife and Industry Together” (W.A.I.T.) certification by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation is presented to companies that provide environmental education to employees and invest in wildlife habitat enhancements. To date, five organizations in the Research Triangle Park have been recognized for implementing W.A.I.T. initiatives:
- The Research Triangle Foundation
- The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- GlaxoSmithKline
- IBM
Educational events and features at the Research Triangle Foundation include guided nature hikes and “lunch and learn” presentations from the North Carolina Bluebird Society, a native tree identification trail, a butterfly garden and a bluebird trail.

IBM also had their property certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council, another organization which parners with large organizations to protect and enhance wildlife habitat on their property.
